Eleven years ago God called less than 80 people out of the comfort and familiarity of their suburban life to give birth to a new community in the Treasure Valley. Soon high school students were arriving early to set up for Sunday services, businessmen and soccer moms were becoming lay ministers, families were praying together for an unconnected generation to be engaged by the message of God’s love. The rush for this adventurous community was in getting to be the church, not just attend it. It was clear that church was experienced best when we were living it, not simply watching it happen. In the midst of the movement, we began to recognize the importance of having chances to serve and sacrifice for everyone that came through our doors. It became clear that our young church shined when everyone had a part to play. This is still true of our church today,but now more than ever the call is clear to give ourselves away. To be challenged and changed by investing our best in a world that desperately needs to see God’s love and life on display.
Take a look around, look beyond yourself, what do you see?
- Wounded, stressed out, even people in our valley that are really in need of a simple meal, a listening friend, maybe even shelter, or hope.
A generation who is passionate to know, serve and follow Jesus, but are stuck not knowing how to get started.
A world that has not experienced the loving revolution of the genuine Christ.
New followers of Jesus in countries around the world, with a desire to share the love they’ve found, but without partners in training, resources and spiritual support.
Looking back, God has blessed VLCC in huge ways: we are a church rich in resources and experience, but the best of what He has given is you, passionate and devoted followers of Jesus: leaders, teachers, entrepreneurs, volunteers, moms, dads, students.
Valley Life, God is inviting us together to invest our lives and gifts beyond our own interests, here through our church, within our community and around the world, into a Kingdom that’s advancing, into a world that’s in need. God is calling us to go, to give ourselves away. During this summer (Yes, this summer!) we will begin launching an exciting 2009-2010 GO Campaign. Over this next year there will be a lot of ways we’ll GO for it, ramping up to send and support each other wherever God calls! For now, focus on getting yourself ready by beginning to pray for a heart that will honestly hear and respond to the transforming invitation of Jesus, to begin (or begin again) a brand new adventure of giving yourself away.
